In its proposed budget for year 2013-14 the municipal corporation has given priority to infrastructure and transportation projects. On Thursday, municipal commissioner Ajay Bhadoo also proposed RMC budget of Rs 1,090 crore for the same.
"RMC is the first corporation who launched e-payment facility in Gujarat and now we will connect all our 23 ward offices with e-governance in this year. Moreover we will be the first corporation to start online issuing of birth certificate with digital signature. There will be also facility of online registration of birth from the hospital," said Bhadoo. RMC has proposed to spend about Rs 1.45 crore on e-ward office and other e-governance related facilities.
The road infrastructure and transportation is the main issues of the city and corporation will spend about Rs 150 crore on road and bridge developments.
"We have given more priority to the infrastructure development related projects in this budget as it is necessary. Moreover RMC will soon start its own city bus service for the people of Rajkot," said Bhadoo.
RMC is going to start Rajkot Municipal Transport Services (RMTS) to provide better transportation services in the city area. For this, the corporation will spend over Rs 18 crore. The service is likely to start operations in May this year. According to RMC officials they would purchase 55 buses which include 20 mini buses through the tender.
Currently, there are five buses are running on Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) on 150 feet ring road in city and it has received very good response.
