Disclosing this at a press conference here on Wednesday, SMOT Director Narasimhan said they had tied up with the Canadian Association of Management Consulting (CAMC), a professional consulting body, to offer management consulting degree in finance, marketing, IT and HR. As part of the collaboration, three faculty members from CAMC would visit SMOT.
The admission would be based on an entrance test conducted nationwide and the fee for the course is Rs 4.3 lakh per annum. SMOT, which started the Chennai campus last September, now has 25 faculty. It has applied to the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) for recognition, he said.
The institute plans to set up its third campus later in Bangalore at a cost Rs 25 crore. "We would go for institutional funding for this project,'' Narasimhan said. SMOT is also looking at student and faculty exchange programmes and intends to send all its students to Canada to undergo training in consulting module.
He said SMOT was using Blackberry service provided by Research in Motion (RIM) for seamless connectivity. "RIM is working on cutomising some applications for us. However, it is not clear when the beta testing of the applications would be done," the director said.
