House proceedings stalled for one hour

After a furore witnessed in the Parliament over the Wikileaks revelations about the UPA government's alleged involvement in the cash-for-vote issue, the fresh revelation made by Wikileaks about the Gujarat government created a huge uproar in the state assembly today resulting into an adjournment of the house for one hour.

The Congress, main opposition party in the state assembly, targeted the Narendra Modi government on the basis of the revelations by Wikileaks about the alleged corruption in the administration and false claims by the chief minister about the investment inflows in the state.

The leader of opposition, Shaktisinh Gohil alleged that the chief minister was misleading people of Gujarat by using statements of Wikileaks and was trying to portray that he was a non-corrupt leader. Modi has claimed that the leaked cable acknowledged him as incorruptible and referred to Gujarat as a progressive state.

The opposition party came up with other comments reported in the cable showing the dark side of the Modi administration and demanded a full fledged discussion over the issue. The members of opposition also waived placards during their protest outside the house. However, Gohil could not provide a copy of the leaked cable. He could not either clarify the source from where he accessed the information.

At the beginning of the house proceedings today, Gohil demanded a debate over the leaked Wikileaks cables on Modi and Gujarat government. The speaker of the house, Ganpat Vasava offered to grant time to the opposition only after the question hour. But the opposition was not satisfied with the reply of speaker and started raising anti-government slogans. The speaker had to adjourn the house for an hour.

Gohil claimed that the Wikileaks revelation of the leaked US deplomatic cable mentioned that there was big ticket corruption in Gujarat and the business money flowed to the BJP in Gujarat. He also rejected the claims made by the Modi about the reports of US diplomats praising the Gujarat government.
