Proving all naysayers wrong, the incumbent Biju Janata Dal (BJD) is poised to repeat its sterling performance of 2009 polls with trends projecting 101 assembly seats for the party.
In the 2009 elections, the BJD had romped home with 103 out of 147 seats after severing ties with the BJP. BJD supremo Naveen Patnaik is set to create history by leading his party in back to back wins, securing over 100 seats in two consecutive assembly polls, a feat unprecedented for any party in the state.
Trends also depict a gain in vote share for the BJD to 41.7% compared to 38.86% in 2009 polls.
In the counting status known for 141 out of 147 seats, the Congress vote share is set to dwindle from 29.10% to 26.5%. '
The same trend shows BJP raising its vote share from 15.05% to 17.2% and also its seat strength to at least 13 from its tally of six in the last polls.
