Former Member of Parliament (MP) Shahid Siddiqui on Monday said he not only condemns what the National Conference (NC) leader Farooq Abdullah's threat to secede from India if Narendra Modi gets elected as prime minister, but also, is scared about such statements being aired in the public domain.
"I not only condemn what Farooq Abdullah has said, but I am also scared. The country will remain united if it remains secular. Even Ashoka the Great and Akbar rose above religion. Emperor Aurangazeb, however, faltered because he believed in religion. At any cost, we must keep this country intact, especially when the entire world is ready to cut our nation into pieces," Siddiqui said.
Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (NC) chief Farooq Abdullah said Sunday that Kashmir will not be a part of India if Modi is voted to power.
Addressing an election rally, Abdullah, who is also Union New and Renewable Energy Minister, said the people of Kashmir wouldn't accept a communal person.
"If it happens, then Kashmir will not remain a part of India. I say it publicly. Kashmiris will not accept a communal person," said Abdullah.
Abdullah also hit out at people who have voted for Modi.
"Those who vote for Modi should drown themselves in the sea," he added.
