Singh was asked by reporters whether the SAD leadership had been right in inviting Jaitley to contest his first Lok Sabha election from Amritsar.
"That's where, I think, Akalis misled him. Because Akalis themselves have got disconnected from the public after being so long in power," the Congress leader said.

"You can never win a battle being on defensive, you have to get on offensive and put the opponent on defensive. I was always in offensive mode, whether in Army or in politics. So we put Arun Jaitley on the defensive, we put (SAD leader Bikram Singh) Majithia on defensive," he said.
Speaking on the poll trends in Amritsar, SAD leader Naresh Gujaral said: "I am surprised at the trends in Amristar. I think comparatively lower voting in the city spoiled the Jaitley's chances.
