 "Sena-MNS clash: R R Patil visits injured constable")
Maharashtra Home Minister R R Patil today visited the police constable, who is undergoing treatment in a private hospital here for grievous injuries he sustained during a clash among Sena and MNS supporters in suburban Trombay, police said.
Patil paid a visit to Joy Hospital in suburban Chembur at around 10 am to enquire about the health condition of constable Vikas Thorbole, who is admitted in the ICU, police said.
Patil was accompanied by Deputy Police Commissioner Gautam Lakhami and Trombay Senior Police Inspector Vijay Kadam.
"Patil enquired with doctors about Thorbole's health condition and asked them to provide the best treatment so that the the constable could recover soon. Thorbole was not in a condition to speak to the Minister," a police officer said.
Quoting doctors, inspector Kadam said Thorbole's condition was stable and recovering.
According to Trombay police, Shiv Sena and MNS workers clashed with each other in suburban Mankhurd on Thursday at about 1.30 am accusing each other of distributing cash among voters.
The third phase of polling was held on Thursday (April 24) for 19 Lok Sabha seats in Maharashtra.
The argument escalated to stone pelting when Thorbole, who had reached the spot, was caught in the exchange and sustained serious injuries, leading to severe bleeding.
Two persons were arrested immediately while 16 others, including Kamini, wife of Rahul Shewale - who contested elections from Mumbai South Central - were yet to be apprehended.
Kamini had yesterday filed an anticipatory bail application in a local court which granted her interim protection from arrest till June.
The accused were booked under IPC Sections 307 (attempt to murder), 332 (voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from his duty), among others.
