The Indian rupee strengthened by 33 paise against the dollar to breach the 46 level after nearly 13 months in opening trade today on steady inflow of foreign funds.

The domestic currency at the Interbank Foreign Exchange (Forex) market was quoted at 45.80 per dollar, a gain of 33 paise over previous close.

Dealers said steady inflow of foreign funds in the equity markets kept the dollar under pressure in the last few sessions.

The US currency weakened against major and other Asian units which also bolstered the rupee sentiment.

The rupee had closed 35 paise higher at 46.13/14 in the previous session.
