Dr. P. K. Mishra inaugurates 2nd National Symposium on Excellence in Training Dr. P. K. Mishra, Additional Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister inaugurated the 2nd National Symposium on Excellence in Training (NSET) here today. Addressing the two day National Symposium, Dr. P. K. Mishra said that the Regional Symposiums held prior to this National Symposium will help to achieve a meaningful and better outcome. He said that the focus of the technical sessions is more on Citizen Centric Governance. Dr. P. K. Mishra said the Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) with the assistance of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) had been the national facilitators in the areas of ethics, leadership, urban development and gender issues. He said that, in the last two years, Government of India has taken path breaking initiatives like Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, ease of doing business and Jan Dhan Yojana among others. Dr. P. K. Mishra said that the ideas evolve over generation and how effectively an idea is applied to a particular situation, makes the difference. He said that the transparency, speed and effective implementation are the three important factors for the success of any scheme and he also highlighted the importance of technology for new schemes like Digital India and Smart City. He said that all these factors pose a great challenge at the grass root level and training is needed to them, who interact directly with the people. He also highlighted on two aspects, demand driven training institutes and impact of training. Dr. P. K. Mishra complimented both, DoPT and UNDP, for this important initiative and was hopeful that the ideas which emerge out of this National Symposium will be more relevant and more practical. Dr. P. K. Mishra inaugurated an exhibition showcasing publications, training materials and methods developed by various State Administrative Training Institutes/ Central Training Institutes/ Ministries/ Departments. Shri Sanjay Kothari, Secretary, DoPT said that the training earlier was focusing more on imparting information and never looked at attitudinal change. But now there has been a change in the attitude, he added. Shri Sanjay Kothari said that the DoPT has undertaken a major challenge to change the mindset of the people and asked everyone to support in this endeavor. The 2nd NSET consisted of four Technical sessions today to discuss on topics like Citizen Centric Governance, Induction Training, Managing and Building Efficient Training Establishments. Mr. Yuri Afanasiev, UN Resident Coordinator and UNDP Resident Representative in India, senior officers of Government of India, State Governments, Director Generals/ Directors of State Administrative Training Institutes/ Central Training Institutes and State Institutes of Rural/ Urban Developments, Training Managers & Cadre Controlling Authorities of Central Ministries/Departments were also present on the occasion.
