The condition of the lone surviving Chechen-origin Boston bombings suspect has been upgraded from critical to fair, raising hopes that he will soon be able to stand trial for his role in the deadly attack.

"According to Beth Israel Deaconess, at noon today, Dzhokhar Tsarvaev's condition is listed as 'fair'," Federal prosecutors in Boston said.

The officials said they were releasing the information at the request of the Beth Israel Hospital, the New York Post reported.

Dzhokhar was charged with conspiring to use "weapon of mass destruction" and faces death penalty. He was also charged with malicious destruction of property by means of an explosive device resulting in death.

Dzhokhar's brother Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, was pronounced dead on Friday after suffering shrapnel and bullet wounds in a gunfight with police. Dzhokhar was later arrested in connection with the bombings that killed three people and wounded over 250 others.

Dramatic new details painted a chilling picture of how he and his older brother methodically planted two explosives- laden backpacks near the finish line of the Boston Marathon.

Prosecutors unsealed a criminal complaint yesterday that detailed Dzhokhar's role in the April 15 terror bombing and his brother's getaway attempt, which ended with Tamerlan being shot dead.

The complaint recounted surveillance video showing Dzhokhar leaving behind the second of two homemade bombs near a marathon barricade just yards from the finish line and moments before the devastation.

After a second day of interrogating Dzhokhar, investigators believe the brothers were motivated by their religious faith, but do not seem connected to any Muslim terrorist groups.
