Indian High Commissioner to Pakistan, T.C.A. Raghavan, has discussed the details of a meeting that is likely to take place between Pakistani Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and his Indian counterpart, Manmohan Singh on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York this month.

Raghavan met with Sartaj Aziz, adviser to Pakistan's Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on foreign affairs, to discuss about the meeting, which is also important for the United States.

The Obama administration hopes to improve stability in Afghanistan, as foreign troops are scheduled to withdraw from the war-torn country in 2014.

According to Dawn News, President Hamid Karzai will also be present in New York at the time.

The meeting between Raghavan and Aziz commenced with both officials discussing India-Pakistan relations.

The relations between the two countries have been tense due to the recent exchanges of fire between soldiers posted at the Line of Control (LoC), the report said.

Aziz said the impending meeting of both the prime ministers would be a step towards improving relations, adding that it was an effective way to clarify confusions.

He stressed that Pakistan was looking to foster cordial ties with India, adding that the meeting between the two premiers would go a long way to addressing misunderstandings from the past, the report added.
