Indian prime minister Narendra Modi's address to the joint session of the Bhutan Parliament is seen as the two nations taking a big stride in the history said Kinley Dorji, the country's Information and Communications Secretary, on Monday.

Speaking to ANI shortly before Prime Minister Modi's address to the Bhutan's joint session of parliament, Dorji said:" It is a big event for us. It has happened once before when Manmohan Singh addressed in 2008. Today is a special joint sitting to welcome Modi and to listen to him."

Dorji describing about the parliament's composition to the media team, said, "We have two houses- national assembly and national council.National council is located in a different building and we come here only for joint sessions."

He also said, " It is no secret that Indo- Bhutan relation is described as a shining testimony. It shows how two countries can help and collaborate and be friends. A big country and small country can be friends with equal stature. Happiness has number of pillars and criterion. One is sustainable socio-economic development.

It has been built on the foundation of India's support."

This is Prime Minister Narendra Modi's first foreign visit after he assumed office on May 26.
