New details have reportedly emerged from whistleblower Edward Snowden's NSA leaks, which point towards the intelligence agency's plans of scaling up the process of bugging targets' computers with malware.
Former Guardian journalist Glenn Greenwald and reporter Ryan Gallagher have published details about how these programmes work and which tools the NSA uses to compromise security.
According to The Verge, among the tools used to carry out the targeted attacks via bugged routers or through Facebook, a program known as TURBINE is meant to dramatically speed the process of planting malware by allowing the current implant network to scale to millions of implants via automated control implants by groups instead of individually.
Another program, called QUANTUMHAND, attempts to direct targets to a fake Facebook server, through a series of Quantum attacks from spam messages to instant messaging compromise to taking control of botnets.
Revelations by Snowden have put both to question the personal security and privacy on the virtual world with major tech companies being forced to furnish user data over court's orders.
