Interview with One of the eight toppers scoring the 100th percentile in CAT

Abhiram Iyer, a 23-year old originally from Mumbai, is one of the eight toppers scoring the 100th percentile. He has completed a dual degree in mechanical engineering from IIT-Madras, and hopes to join one of the IIMs at Ahmedabad, Bangalore or Kolkata.

Which IIM do you aspire to be in?

My targets for the IIMs are A,B and C. I would love a call from any one of these.

How were you able to crack CAT 2013?

This was actually my third attempt. Previously, I used to waste a bit of time in trying to derive certain formulae and definitions in the paper, which slowed me and also affected my accuracy.

This time, I made sure that I was thorough with the basics. I focused more on solving papers rather than simply theory and joined a couple of test series. In the last two months, I used to solve a paper after coming home from office every other day.

What are the chances of getting into an IIM of your choice, in spite of the high score?

Getting admission would not be easy, 100 percentile or otherwise. These are the premier institutes our country has to offer, after all. I am going to have to be preparing for them as earnestly and diligently as the next guy to secure a final call.
