Dear students,

LAST WEEK WE ASKED:

Do you think rupee depreciation will impact the student traffic internationally?

RESPONSES:

The fluctuation in rupee will not impact students' decision to defer or cancel their plans of studying abroad. Education is perceived as a long-term career investment, particularly when one looks for superior education in notable and top-rated institutions abroad. There will be no compromise on quality education to offset the increasing costs of studying abroad, and therefore little apprehension in joining the foreign institutes. However, there may be marginal decline in student traffic internationally with respect to tier -II and tier-III colleges abroad where the quality of education and infrastructure are comparable to the domestic institutes.

- Akshay Chadha, NSIT, Delhi

From the standpoint of fundamentals, yes it will directly or indirectly effect the student because when rupee depreciates the price of the product or service increases. Thus, study cost for education will also increase making higher education costlier. Deserving students from poor or middle income family, may be deprived of international higher education.

- Pradip J Darji, S V Institute of Management, Kadi

The depreciation of rupee against the dollar comes as disconcerting news for students seeking education internationally. Now as the rupee depreciates students have to spend more for the tuition fee and their accommodation. Therefore students will now search for other options viz. paying in other denominations or student will think twice and enquire twice before joining any foreign college or students will search options in their home country. On the positive front this will eliminate Sham University.

-Nilaya Mitash Shanker, Shri Ram Swaroop Memorial College Of Engineering & Management, Lucknow

Your responses should reach us at edu@businessstandard.com by Monday evening every week. Please ensure that your responses do not exceed 100 words. Avoid attachments and email your full name, institute's name, batch and complete mailing address. The student who gives the 'Best Response' will be awarded Rs 500.

THIS WEEK'S QUESTION:

Do you think bringing in a self-disclosure regime will promote transparency among higher education institutes instead of inspection by regulating bodies?
