Copper prices declined by Rs 1.60 to Rs 440.75 per kg in futures trading today as speculators trimmed their positions, tracking a weak global trend.

At the Multi Commodity Exchange, copper for delivery in February declined by Rs 1.60, or 0.36 per cent, to Rs 440.75 per kg in business turnover of 27,677 lots.

Likewise, the metal for delivery in April traded lower by the same margin to Rs 446.45 per kg in 2,852 lots.

Market analysts said speculators trimmed their positions on the back of a weak global trend mainly influenced copper prices at futures trade.

Meanwhile, copper for delivery in three months declined 0.2 per cent to USD 8,099.25, the lowest level since January 29 on the London Metal Exchange.
