Fao To Extend $3,65,000 Grant For Water Resources Schemes

The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organisation (FAO) will provide a grant of $3,65,000 for water resource development schemes aimed at pushing up agricultural production in ten eastern states spanning from Chhatisgarh to Arunachal Pradesh.

An agreement to this effect was signed between FAO and the agriculture ministry last week.

Under the agreement, FAO will draw the outlines of the programme for poverty reduction through farm water management in the eastern India. The project will focus on using the huge untapped groundwater resources for boosting crop yields and incomes of millions of small and marginal farmers. The seven-month exercise, which will involve international and national experts, is being undertaken on the request of the Indian government. The funds will come from the FAO
