Gold up Rs 100, silver Rs 300 on Dhanteras demand

Both the precious metals, gold and silver, gained in the national capital today, on brisk buying by retailers and stockists for festive demand amid a firming global trend.

While gold added Rs 100 to Rs 27,130 per 10 grams, silver gained Rs 300 to Rs 53,500 per kg, as retailers made traditional token purchases of precious metals and jewellery on 'Dhanteras', an auspicious day for Hindus.

Trading sentiments further bolstered as gold advanced in global markets on concerns of deepening Eurozone debt crisis.

Gold in global markets, which normally sets the price trend on the domestic front here, gained 0.9%, to $1,657.30 an ounce and silver by 1.1% to $31.73 an ounce in Melbourne.

On the domestic front, gold of 99.9 and 99.5% purity advanced by Rs 100 each to Rs 27,130 and Rs 26,990 per 10 grams, respectively, while sovereigns held steady at Rs 22,000 per piece of eight grams.

Similarly, silver ready moved up by Rs 300 to Rs 53,500 per kg and weekly-based delivery by Rs 290 to Rs 53,280 per kg, respectively.

On the other hand, silver coins continued to be asked around previous level of Rs 62,000 for buying and Rs 63,000 for selling of 100 pieces.
