It is as flat as it can get. The Sensex is quoting virtually unchanged at 17,641 and the Nifty is down four points at 5270.
The Asian markets are trading sideways as well; the Hang Seng is higher by 14 points and the Nikkei lower by 13 points. The US markets were closed on Monday on account of Martin Luther King Day.
The top gainer on the Sensex is Jaiprakash Associates, which has strengthened by 0.9% at Rs 164). Tata Power and Maruti have gained 0.6% each at Rs 1450 and Rs 1442. Tata Steel, Sterlite and NTPC are the other notable gainers.
ACC is the top loser on the BSE, weakening by 1.1% at Rs 972. Wipro has shed 1% at Rs 740 and hero Honda has lost 0.7% at Rs 1681. ONGC, HDFC Bank and ITC are the other significant losers.
The market breadth is strong. Out of 1413 stocks traded on the BSE, there are 1084 advancing stocks as against 300 declines.
