Markets off highs

The Sensex is quoting at 16,951, (higher by 85 points). After having opened at 16,879, it has touched a high of 16,979 anmd a low of 16,879 thus far. 

The leading Sensex gainers are Hindalco (stronger by 3.7% at Rs 121), ITC (higher by 2.5% at Rs 244) and Sterlite (firm by 1.98% at Rs 764).

TCS, ICICI, Hindustan Unilever and Wipro have gained between 1 and 2 per cent each.

The Nifty is placed at 4968, down by 35 points.

The major Nifty losers are Reliance Communications (shed 11% to Rs 265), Bharti Airtel (lower by 9.2% at Rs 363) and Idea (slipped 7.7% at Rs 65). Unitech and Tata Motors have lost between 2 and 3 per cent each.

The leading Nifty gainers are Hindalco, (higher by 2.2% at Rs 120), ITC (stronger bby 1.9% at Rs 243) and Sterlite (up 1% at Rs 757). Ranbaxy, Hindustan lever and TCS
 have gained up to 1% each.
