Mentha oil prices fell by Rs 1.60 to Rs 684.80 per kg in futures trade today as speculators indulged in profit-booking amid fall in demand in the spot market.
Increased arrivals from the producing belts in Uttar Pradesh also weighed on the prices.
On the Multi Commodity Exchange counter, mentha oil for July-month contract drifted by Rs 1.60 or 0.23 per cent to Rs 684.80 per kg, clocking a business volume of 170 lots.
Similarly, the oil for delivery in September contract eased by Rs 1.30 or 0.18 per cent to Rs 722.30 per kg, with a business turnover of 24 lots, while August contract fell by Rs 1.20, or 0.17 per cent, to Rs 714 per kg in 139 lots.
Market analysts said the fall in mentha oil prices was mostly due to profit-taking by speculators and weakening trend at spot market due to poor demand.
