Nifty ends at 2009-closing high

Sensex has finally ended (provisionally) at 17,336 - up 104 points.

The Nifty ended (provisional) at 5,172 - up 27 points.

The Nifty has surged 46 points to 5,190. This is the highest the index has reached in this calendar year.

The Sensex  has rebounded into the positive terrain and is now firm at 17,295, up 65 points. The BSE realty and the metal indices are up around 1.5% each.

Reliance Infrastructure and Tata Motors have added 2.5% each a Rs 1,096 and Rs 764, respectively.

Mahindra & Mahindra, ONGC, TCS, Sterlite and Tata Steel are firm, up 1% each.

Jaiprakash Associates is the most prominent loser still on the Sensex, down 2% at Rs 143. NTPC, Bharti Airtel and ITC, down 1% each.

The market breadth is fairly positive, out of 2,865 shares traded, 1,602 have advanced and 1,169 have declined so far on the BSE.
