Polaris Software and Satyam Computers reported disappointing first-quarter results, but their long-term outlook still looks bright

Despite the persistent pressure on billing rates, many domestic software services companies managed to pleasantly surprise the markets by posting healthy sequential growth in revenues during the first quarter ending June 2002. The topline growth was largely attributed to a robust surge in volumes, on the back of a business ramp-up from clients acquired in the past few quarters.

There were exceptions to this general trend, though; Chennai-based Polaris Software Laboratories and Satyam Computer Services were two of them. Both disappointed investors by posting first-quarter results which were below expectations.
