Potato prices fell by Rs 9.20, to Rs 677.20 per quintal in futures trade today as speculators offloaded their holdings, driven by a weak trend in the spot market.
At the Multi Commodity Exchange, potatoes for May delivery fell by Rs 9.20, or 1.34 per cent, to Rs 677.20 per quintal with a business volume of 28 lots.
Furthermore, potatoes for March contract delivery eased by Rs 8.80, or 1.31 per cent, to Rs 660.10 per quintal with an open interest in 1,047 lots, while potatoes for April contract delivery also fell by Rs 7.80 -- or 1.19 per cent -- to Rs 647.10 per quintal in 311 lots.
Traders said the fall in potato prices was mostly due to offloading of positions by speculators, driven by subdued demand in the spot market.
