Sensex up 48pts; HDFC advances 3%

The NSE Nifty is up 18 points at 5,055.

BHEL has soared 4.5% to Rs 1,853, and DLF has surged 3.7% to Rs 675.

Jaiprakash Associates and HDFC have rallied 3.3% each to Rs 241 and Rs 2,567, respectively.

Larsen & Toubro, ONGC and Cipla have gained around 3% each at Rs 2,925, Rs 1,063 and Rs 232, respectively.

ACC and ICICI Bank have advanced over 2% each to Rs 817 and Rs 883, respectively.

HDFC Bank, Tata Motors, ITC and NTPC are up around 1.5% each at Rs 1,467, Rs 631, Rs 212 and Rs 197, respectively.

TCS has slumped 9.3% to Rs 900. Wipro has plunged 5.5% to Rs 428, and Satyam has tumbled nearly 5% to Rs 436. Infosys has shed 3% at Rs 1,595.

Ranbaxy has dropped 2.5% to Rs 486. Mahindra & Mahindra and Maruti have slipped 1.4% each to Rs 630 and Rs 757, respectively.

Out of 2,679 stocks traded so far, 1,590 have advanced, 1,031 have declined and 58 are unchanged.
