The bearish sentiment in the equity markets resulted in small and mid-cap stocks sliding on the BSE to their October 2008-lows. The BSE’s Mid-Cap Index ended 1.62 per cent down at 2,657 On Tuesday, while the Small-Cap Index shed 1.30 per cent at 3,009.
Stock brokers said that volumes of some small and mid-cap stocks in the domestic markets are very low, and it is now difficult for investors to exit the counters.
Some of the counters with extremely thin volumes in the small and mid-cap segment included Crisil (only 168 shares were traded On Tuesday), Emami (5,400), ABG Infralogistics (1,543), Castrol (3,996), 3i India (879), Advanta (127), Alfa Laval (281), Anant Raj Industries (795), Britannia Industries (864), Binani Industries (2,191) and C&C Construction (1,197), among others.
