Transport Subsidy For Sugar Exporters Likely

The food ministry is toying with the idea of providing transport subsidy to sugar exporters as part of a special package to boost export.

Other incentives which are being considered by the Centre for the sector are some amendments in the Sugar Development Fund (SDF) Act to favour co-generation of power in sugar factories.

The proposal which has been sent to the Cabinet covers both raw and white sugar and would subsidise an exporter from paying the transportation cost from the factories to the port.
