Wheat prices rose up to Rs 25 per quintal in the wholesale grains market today on increased offtake by flour mills to meet the ongoing marriage season demand as new crops arrived in the market.

Traders said increased offtake by flour mills following pick up in demand on account of ongoing marriage season pushed up wheat prices at the wholesale market.

Meanwhile, wheat procurement from Uttar Pradesh so far this year has declined by 40 per cent to 1.37 million tonnes from 2.29 million tonnes in the corresponding period last year.

In the national capital, wheat dara (for mills) rose by Rs 20 to Rs 1,160-1,165 and wheat deshi by Rs 25 to Rs 1,675- 1,775 per quintal. Atta chakki delivery too traded higher by Rs 20 to Rs 1,165-1,170 per 90 kg.

Maida and sooji also gained Rs 5 and Rs 10 to Rs 635-665 and Rs 680-700 per 50 kg, respectively in line with rising wheat prices.
