The Thar speeding in excess of 150km/hr despite having the aerodynamics of a brick, which gets further exacerbated due to soft top canopy. The driver was also performing lane change manoeuvres displayed at pretty high speed when the driver attempted to get away indicated minimal body roll and therefore it can be safely conjectured that Mahindra engineers have done some serious work on chassis / suspension in addition to endowing the Thar with the substantially more powerful power plant. We can expect a torsion beam to have been added to improve its stability and also enhance its handling.
The current Mahindra Thar had a top speed of about 125km/hr (actual speed). The Thar gets an upgrade on the inside too, with new three-spoke steering wheel, instrument cluster, gear lever and a lot more things have been upgraded too. Even the rear canopy of the Thar was fine and wasn't tilted like the previous 4x4 that was caught during testing. There is a good chance of an upgrade in its engine, not sure if it has got the 2.2-litre mHawk or the same engine has been given more power. Mahindra has worked on the ride and handling of the Xylo also, and even the new Scorpio's high-speed stability has been improved. There were rumours of Thar getting the 1.5-litre diesel engine, however we believe Mahindra might just give it the 2.2-litre mHawk, but we do not have confirmed reports on that.
