A fire broke out in a garment packaging factory just outside Bangladeshi capital Dhaka on Saturday, killing at least 12 people, Police and witnesses said that dozens more have been admitted to a hospital with injuries, even as firemen are struggling to control the blaze in the four-storey building.
According to local media reports, the fire occurred in the industrial zone of Tongi, 20 kilometers north of Dhaka, and the reason for it was not immediately known.
Around 100 people were in the building when the fire began.
Readymade garments are the mainstay of the Bangladeshi economy. This ector earned USD 28 billion in exports during fiscal 2015-16.
