At least 43 people have been killed in shelling by Houthi rebels in the southern city of Aden in Yemen, said officials.

According to BBC, around 120 people were injured in the bombardment that came amid government forces trying to tighten grip around the city.

There has been heavy fighting between the rebels and loyalists in Aden in the recent months.

Yemeni medics said the shelling came from the rebel-held areas, according to reports.

However, a Houthi rebel leader denied bombarding the district.
