A Taliban commentary has raised hopes for activating the peace process with the Afghan Government, even as pressure builds on the armed group to declare a ceasefire.

According to the Express Tribune, Taliban supremo Mullah Omar approved of the talks in his Eid message, which could be seen as a positive indication for the peace process to move ahead.

However, the process still faces serious challenges from hardliners within the Taliban and elements of the Afghan government.

Senior Taliban leaders and representatives of the Afghan government in Kabul held a meeting for the first time in last 14 years in Pakistan-brokered talks in Murree on July 7.

According to Afghan leaders, another round is planned in mid-August.
