An earthquake measuring 6.5 on the Richter scale struck in the Pacific off the Solomon Islands on Friday but no tsunami warning has been issued so far.

The U.S. Geological Survey said that the quake hit 154 km southwest of Dadali and 170 km west of the capital Honiara at a depth of 20 km, reported Xinhua.

A spokesman for the National Disaster Management Office in the Solomons Islands said that no damage had been reported at the moment.

A 5.3-magnitude aftershock followed the temblor.

The Solomon Islands were hit by a tsunami, triggered by an 8.0-magnitude earthquake, in 2013. It left at least 10 people dead and thousands homeless after buildings were destroyed.
