Along with the whole nation, Tripura also celebrated the 68th Republic Day as thousands of people took part in the Republic Day celebration throughout the state.
The main programme of the state was organized at the Assam Rifles parade ground in Agartala, where Governor Tathagata Roy, unfurled the tricolour. He also inspected the parade and took the guard of honour.
Roy in his written speech praised the achievement of the state government in various sectors like literacy, connectivity, sports, human resource, all round development and also gave credit to the union government in helping the state to move ahead.
He also praised Bangladesh for giving access to Tripura for using its ports.
Roy said, "Due to our Prime Minister's hard effort and with cooperation of the Bangladesh Prime Minister presently through Ashuganj port in Bangladesh commodities are regularly reaching Tripura from various parts of India. Under PMGSY all remote areas of the state a getting connected by network of all weather roads. At present Agartala is connected with big cities like Delhi, Kolkata, Guwahati and Silchar by train. This is certainly an appreciable footstep on behalf of the Railways Ministry."
Different paramilitary forces, state police and NCC cadets participated in the parade, which was followed by a colourful cultural programme.
Anil Debbarma, a visitor from a remote village, said, "Every year the government organizes the celebration of Republic day and we have come here to take part in the celebration on the invitation of the Governor. Large number of people has gathered here for the celebration. We have noticed good security arrangements here."
Another visitor, Satyajit Roy, said, "I have come here along with my friends and colleagues to see the Republic Day parade. Large numbers of people have gatherd here for the same purpose.
Adequate security measures were taken here to avoid any type of untoward incident ahead of and during the celebrations of India's 68th Republic Day being celebrated through the country on January 26.
