According to a recent survey, eight in 10 internet users across countries agree with the United Nations (UN) Human Rights Council's 2012 declaration that Internet access and online freedom of expression is a human right.

The report said that 83 percent of users believe that affordable access to the internet should be a basic human right, reported Mashable.

The CIGI-Ipsos Global Survey on Internet Security and Trust, commissioned by the Centre for International Governance Innovation (CIGI) and conducted by global research company Ipsos, surveyed more than 23,000 Internet users across 24 countries between October 7 and November 12.

In developing nations, people agree more broadly than those in regions where internet access has become almost standard.

In fact, 90 percent of survey respondents in the Middle East and Africa think that Internet access is a human right.
