Former Maharashtra chief minister and Congress MP Ashok Chavan has approached the Bombay High Court challenging Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao's decision granting sanction to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to prosecute him in the Adarsh housing society scam.

"Former governor of Maharashtra K. Sankaranarayanan denied sanction to CBI to prosecute me in Adarsh Scam during his tenure. But present Governor C. Vidyasagar Rao has approved the sanction which is illegal. I have approached the Bombay High Court," Chavan told ANI.

The Bombay High Court had earlier on October 5 asked the CBI to undertake the probe of 'benami' flats in the Adarsh society.

The court also ordered further investigation in the scam and said that CBI will be conducting the investigation in the case.

Vidyasagar Rao had earlier in February this year granted sanction to the CBI to prosecute Chavan for offences under IPC Sections 120 (b)(criminal conspiracy) and 420 (cheating and under various provisions of the Prevention of Corruption Act in the Adarsh Cooperative Housing Society case.

The CBI has accused the former chief minister of approving additional floor space index for Adarsh society in return for two flats for his relatives.
