Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader L.K Advani on Thursday skipped the BJP-RSS Coordination Committee meeting, to attend the condolence meeting of party's Tamil Nadu General Secretary V Ramesh, who was killed in Salem on July 19.

"Advaniji had to leave for a condolence meet of our leader who was murdered in Tamil Nadu, this is why he won't attend the meet," BJP leader Sushma Swaraj told media here.

The top brass of BJP and RSS is meeting here today to brainstorm on their strategy for the upcoming general elections.

The meeting takes place at a time when there are speculations that Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi, who has been appointed as the BJP's campaign committee chief for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls, may be announced as his party's Prime Ministerial candidate soon.

According to certain media reports, Modi could be appointed as the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate as early as September.

The BJP wants to cash in on Modi's popularity in the assembly elections in four big states at the end of this year.
