Union Minister for Information and Broadcasting Arun Jaitley on Sunday stated that the advent of technology has made it difficult to restrict the media.
Delivering the Justice J S Verma Memorial lecture on 'Freedom and Responsibility of Media', Jaitley said the decreasing quantum of advertising revenue due to the exponential growth of media firms is the biggest challenge before media houses to be self-sustainable.
The Minister also stated that editors should be wary of the fact that the content published by them will impact large number of readers, adding that the media should be particularly careful while reporting insurgency and terror attacks.
Justice J. S. Verma was named the 27th Chief Justice of India, serving his term from March 25, 1997 to January 18, 1998. He was also the chairman of National Human Rights Commission between 1999 and 2003. He passed away on April 22, 2013.
