A violent battle has been underway across Helmand for months, a stronghold of Taliban and a major opium center.

Afghan army sergeant Abdul Samad said that their forces have been fighting the insurgents with a high moral in the Helmand area and revealed that the Talibans are unable to confront the forces, citing it to be optimistic.

According to reports, Samad said Afghan soldiers were able to fight back the Taliban in Nad-e Ali, where the insurgents had cut off water supplies for local residents and used the local civilians as tools to fight against soldiers.

However, the crisis in Helmand has piled pressure on the government of President Ashraf Ghani, which was rocked by the fall of the northern city of Kunduz, seized by Taliban fighters.

Afghan commanders have repeatedly requested more helicopters, and closer air support and intelligence from surveillance aircraft and at least two airstrikes have been carried out this week.

According to reports, a spokesman said Helmand is not only the province where Taliban have made gains. However, District Governor Asif Nang rejected the claim as 'baseless' and said the District Governor's headquarters, have been relocated.
