After Blatter, Platini lodges appeal against his provisional ban by FIFA

Under-fire UEFA president Michel Platini has lodged an appeal against his 90-day suspension by the FIFA's Ethics Committee following Sepp Blatter's appeal against an identical ban.

On Thursday, the French football legend saw his ambitions of succeeding football chief Blatter ending after the ethics committee of the world football's governing body slapped a provisional suspension on both of them.

Platini had rejected all allegations against him, saying that he had also received messages of support from many national associations.

The South American Football Confederation, Conmebol, also came in support of Platini.

According to the Guardian, Conmebol said that they don't agree with the decision of barring Platini from football-related activities, insisting that the ban is entirely disproportionate as the UEFA president was not found guilty.

The confederation further said that ban on Platini should be reconsidered and the latter should be allowed to remain as FIFA presidential candidate with full guarantees.

FIFA plunged into an unprecedented crisis when Swiss prosecutors opened criminal proceedings against embattled Blatter last month over allegations that he sold World Cup TV rights to disgraced former FIFA vice-president Jack Warner for 20 times below their true value.

Meanwhile, Platini was questioned over claims that he received a 'disloyal payment' of 1.35 million pounds from the controversial president in 2011, though both of them have denied charges.

FIFA, which also suspended its Secretary General Jerome Valcke, said that the duration of the bans might be extended for an additional period not exceeding 45 days.
