AP CM hails National Mazdoor Union's efforts for helping Road Transport Corp to overcome losses

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu on Tuesday congratulated National Mazdoor Union (NMU) for its efforts in pulling Road Transport Corporation (RTC) out of losses, adding that their efforts are recognised and must continue doing it.

While addressing the gathering, Naidu said, "I congratulate NMU for its efforts in pulling out RTC out of losses, those efforts must continue. Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (APSRTC) has 6,000 woman conductors and it was me who first implemented 33 percent reservation for women. I was also thinking of giving them driver jobs too but women should come forward to get driver jobs. NMU as a responsible union is working for the betterment of RTC. We have to work hard to increase occupancy".

Naidu further asserted that RTC is the only system, which provides transport to more than 14,000 villages and three thousand towns in Andhra Pradesh.

"75 lakh people are availing RTC services every day in our state. RTC is the only system, which provides transport to more than 14,000 villages and three thousand towns in Andhra Pradesh. I gave land to RTC in almost every city of the state. NMU won 10 of the 14 elections held in 50 years. That should be an inspiration to us politicians," he said.

Briefing about the technology efficiently for the state, Naidu stated that technology efficiently should be used more which can reduce accidents.

"Recently we have raised occupancy rate from 66 percent to 77 percent which is good but by using technology efficiently one can raise 5 - 10 percent. With technology, there are many changes coming in buses like driving techniques which needs to be learnt and mastered. We are trying to develop qualitative roads that can reduce accidents," Chief Minister Naidu said.

He also asserted, "I am further thinking of providing houses to all my state people. I wish to provide all 56,000 RTC employees have their own home. If you come with your ideas and proposals we will make you dream come true."

Chief Minister had also garlanded NMU founder at the programme.
