Accusing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of stealing the mandate in Goa and Manipur, the Congress Party on Wednesday said that the saffron party has 'cheated' and heavily misused money to siphon powers in the two states, where the grand old party emerged as the largest party post Assembly Elections.

Congress leader Meem Afzal said that misusing money and cheating are methods which the BJP has always used for political benefits.

"There is nothing new in what the BJP has done, as they have opted for this measure many a times in the past. They first show that they are very honest but end up cheating. This is a political art which the BJP has mastered. The way they have resorted to cheating in Manipur and Goa is appalled," Afzal told ANI.

"They did not wait and just rushed in to form the government. Money was heavily misused and horse trading took place. The BJP even tried to woo Congress MLAs," he added.

Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi yesterday attacked the BJP for polarizing voters and using money power in the recently concluded assembly elections across five states.

"The BJP won elections in UP, I'd like to congratulate them. Why they won, there are multiple reasons, one being polarisation. Democracy is being undermined by them using financial power and money," Gandhi said.

In a major setback to the Congress Party, the Supreme Court today refused to put stay on former defence minister Manohar Parrikar's swearing-in ceremony in Goa and ordered a floor test for the BJP to prove majority in the state assembly.
