Commenting on the joint editorial bylined by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and U.S. President Barack Obama about the India- US relationship, security and strategic matters expert Uday Bhaskar on Tuesday said that an article of this nature represents certain political commitments, and added that it will allow the two leaders to meet with a renewed purpose.

Bhaskar also said that the India-US relations needed re-booting as it had become static in the last few years.

"For the first time in the public domain, the Indian Prime Minister and the US president have jointly authored an article of this nature which represents certain political commitments.India-US relations was in need of re-booting because for the last few years it had become static due to the lack of political interest both in Washington and in New Delhi," Bhaskar told ANI.

"I think the meeting between Obama and the Prime Minister on Tuesday will be very significant in infusing political traction, it will allow the two officials to meet with renewed purpose and see whether India can revisit some of the pending issues," he added.

He further said that the vision statement and the joint editorial put together a very significant articulation in the public domain.

However, Congress Party leader Salman Khurshid said, "It sounds like a very UN statement, and it's a statement we are familiar with. We have some very specific expectations with US, It doesn't indicate something clear and concrete. One was looking for something more substantive."

Earlier on Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Barack Obama, had in a bylined joint editorial published in the Washington Post said that the true potential of the India- US relationship is yet to be fully realized.
