Lawyers of former Tamil Nadu chief minister and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) chief J. Jayalalithaa today filed a memo with the registrar of the Karnataka High Court requesting that the matter of the 18-year-old disproportionate assets case and the appeal for bail thereof be discussed with the Chief Justice of Karnataka D H Waghela, and added that it should be treated as a special case.
Earlier today, the Karnataka High Court admitted Jayalalithaa's petition challenging her conviction in the disproportionate assets case, seeking immediate release on bail. The next hearing has been scheduled on October 6, which means that the former Jayalalithaa will have to stay in jail till the hearing takes place.
Jayalalithaa's conviction has resulted in violent protests leading to stone pelting and self immolation attempts, many of her supporters have reportedly committed suicide as well, and today her supporters staged a silent protest which included some the famous actors from the Tamil film industry.
