Arunachal experiencing constitutional crisis for the first time in its history: Nabam Tuki

Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Nabam Tuki on Friday said that the state is experiencing a constitutional crisis in its history for first time, and squarely blamed Governor J.P. Rajkhowa for it.

"What was happening was unfortunate. We didn't expect that such thing will happen in Arunachal Pradesh. First time in the history of AP that this situation was created by the highest office of the state from whom we expect a lot of things. Situation was created by the highest office of state (Governor) who was supposed to safeguard the state and Constitution," Tuki told ANI here.

"How can they leave the party like that, they didn't fear to leave the party. I have written personal letter and asked if there is any personal grievances. I appeal to all of them to come back and work together," he added.

Tuki further added that the action of the Governor was not justified and legal.

"Therefore, the union government should take a decision to recall the present governor and replace with a new governor who can work for the better interest of the state and who can protect the Constitution of India," he added.

On Wednesday, Tuki had written to Prime Minister Modi and President Mukherjee, seeking their intervention in ongoing political crisis in the state.

In his letters, Tuki informed them of the "unilateral decision taken by Governor J.P. Rajkhowa to summon the Assembly session without consulting the democratically-elected government.

The Arunachal Pradesh Cabinet on Monday had endorsed the opinions of Advocate General and other legal experts on the constitutionality of the December 12 order of State Governor J.P. Rajkhowa to prepone the assembly session from January 14 next to December 16.
