Asia's largest tulip garden opened for the tourists in Kashmir.

A large number of tourists thronged the garden to catch a glimpse of tulips seen in full bloom.

The Indira Gandhi Memorial Tulip Garden, located in the foothills of the Zabarwan hill in Srinagar, overlooks the famous Dal Lake. The garden opens for 15 days.

Reportedly, over two million tulips of 46 varieties have been planted in the garden spread over an area of 15 hectares.

By April, tulips are usually in full bloom in and around Srinagar, lending an ethereal atmosphere to the valley.

The average life span of the tulip flower is three to four weeks but heavy rains or harsh summers can destroy them.

Formerly known as Siraj Bagh, the tulip garden was opened in 2008 by the then chief minister Ghulam Nabi Azad.
