Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has declared he is willing to run for re-election.

In a television interview broadcast, Assad said he did not see a reason why he should not.

According to news24, asked whether he would run, Assad told Lebanese channel Al-Mayadeen that his answer depends on two factors. The first is the personal desire, and the second is the will of the people.

He said that regarding the first point, the one related to him personally, he did not see any reason why he should not run in the next election.
