Former England captain Michael Vaughan believes that world champion Australia needs to be careful of their aggression as it could backfire against them and can cause them the Ashes.

The 2005 Ashes winning captain, who admits that Australia would be starting as favourites in the five match test series, feels that England still have grounds for real optimism.

England defeated New Zealand 3-2 in the five match ODI series and are brimming with confidence after their aggressive play against the World Cup finalist.

Vaughan said that England are playing at home, and Australia haven't won there since 2001, therefore, England should feel good about themselves that if they take risks they could win, news.com.au reported.

He insisted that the English side could not play safely and if they do, they would be suffering for it as the only way to match the Aussies was with high-risk cricket.

He added the funny thing was that Australia could almost be too aggressive, and so England needs to play on that.

The first Test between the two arch rivals will commence from July 8.
