Babasaheb Ambedkar never said will leave India, despite criticism, recalls Rajnath

In an apparent reference to Bollywood actor Aamir Khan's remarks on the raging intolerance debate, Union Home Minister and Deputy Leader of the BJP in Lok Sabha Rajnath Singh on Thursday said the principal architect of the Indian Constitution, Dr. B. R. Ambedkar, never said that he would leave the country , despite facing criticism .

"Ambedkarji had to face a lot of criticism, but he kept on presenting an objective point of view for a unified India. Despite insults, he never said he will leave India," Rajnath Singh said, while addressing the Lok Sabha on the first day of the Parliament winter session.

Rajnath Singh added: "He controlled his emotions and put forward an objective point of view. He never said how he was being ignored and insulted. He said 'I will stay in India and keeping the Indian values and culture in mind, I will strengthen the country'."

Aamir Khan had on Monday joined the debate on the growing 'intolerance' and had said he was 'alarmed' by a number of incidents, and that his wife Kiran Rao even suggested that they should probably leave the country.

However, on Wednesday, he clarified that neither he nor his wife Kiran, have any intention of leaving the country and he is proud to be an Indian.
