Italy striker Mario Balotelli has completed his 16 million pounds move to Liverpool from Italian top-flight club AC Milan.

The former Manchester City player reportedly agreed a long-term deal with Liverpool but did not feature as Brendan Rodger's side lost 3-1 to his old club on Monday. Balotelli left City 17 months ago after scoring 30 goals in three seasons.

Rodgers said that he thinks Liverpool has done a really smart piece of business, adding that this transfer represents outstanding value for the club, The BBC reported.

Balotelli, who will wear the number 45 shirt, said that he had made an error leaving England in January 2013. He said that he is happy to be back because he left England and it was a mistake, and added that he wanted to go to Italy, but realised it was a mistake.

The former Inter Milan player added that English football is generally better and beautiful.

Rodgers also said that there is no doubting Balotelli's ability, adding that he is a world-class talent and someone who, for such a young age, has vast experience of playing at the very highest level.

Rodgers said that the Italian has scored goals in the Barclays Premier League, in Italy, in the Champions League and for his country at international level. The Liverpool boss added that he believes they have the infrastructure, culture and environment to get the best out of him and help him achieve his true potential.

Rodgers said that he is looking forward to working with Balotelli and helping the striker learn more, improve and progress as a player.
